As per Telecom Subscription Data issued by telecom regulator TRAI, total Broadband subscriber base has increased from 9 million in April-2010 to 9.24 million in May-2010. India has shown a broadband subscriber growth of 2.67%.
However, Wireline subscriber base declined from 36.83 Million in April-2010 to 36.39 Million at the end of May-2010. State-run PSUs, BSNL and MTNL hold 84.32% of the Wireline market share. Overall Wireline teledensity is 3.08.
Bharti Airtel has achieved highest 26027 connections (net additions) during May 2010. However, state-run PSUs MTNL and BSNL are still struggling hard to minimize Landline surrenders. MTNL and BSNL shown negative net Wireline additions figures which are (-4089) and (-482515) respectively.

In the list of winners in India’s auction for broadband wireless spectrum, one stands out: Qualcomm Inc. of San Diego. The chipset maker won one spectrum in the 2.3 gigahertz band encompassing Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala — four areas where India’s infrastructure development and telecom and Internet usage are high.
