India: Mobile manufacturing growing at a fast pace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India mission has achieved some success in boosting mobile manufacturing and assembling in the country. The number of handsets manufactured in India nearly doubled in FY16 from the previous year, said Ravi Shankar Prasad, information technology minister, at a recent event.

Ericsson to make India hub for telecom equipment exports

Swedish telecom equipment maker, Ericsson, will be making India a hub for exports to South East Asia West Asia and Sub Saharan Africa. Ericsson was the first telecom vendor to set up manufacturing operation in India in 1994 and now has added this export oriented facility.

Telecom equipment imports rise 20%

Telecom equipment imports rise 20%

India’s telecom equipment imports increased 20% to Rs. 74,116 crore last fiscal, according to the government data. These imports stood at Rs. 61,539.01 crore in 2012-13, while they were Rs. 74,116.21 crore in 2013-14, the data added.
