High-speed internet to be ‘core utility’ as Digital India gets Cabinet nod

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved a blueprint for the Digital India programme, which envisages all government services be delivered electronically by 2018. It also seeks to provide unique identities to all citizens.

Telecom operators are likely to get enough spectrum across bands through auctions that the Government will conduct in 2014-15, according to the roadmap for future auctions, prepared by the Wireless Planning and Coordination wing of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

TRAI chief dissatisfied with broadband speed, growth

Mobile subscribers get low-speed Internet connectivity and broadband growth in the country is ‘poor’, TRAI Chairman Rahul Khullar said. “In India, things are not very optimistic. Here, we have very low speeds on our mobiles and on all our devices. Our broadband connection growth is poor,” he said at a seminar organised by Amity University.
