Mobile Internet users in India to double by 2017, says study

The number of mobile Internet users in India is projected to double and cross the 300 million mark by 2017 from 159 million users at present, a new report by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and consultancy firm KPMG said.

Content delivery network Akamai notes in its Q3 2015 State of the Internet report that India, at 2.5mbps, had the lowest average connection speed among ten Asia Pacific countries surveyed in the region. The global leader, South Korea, has an average connection speed of 20.5mbps.

The inter-ministerial Telecom Commission on Monday reiterated its stand on using the weighted average method to compute the spectrum usage charge (SUC) in addition to introducing proposal for a 3 per cent floor rate for the weighted average calculation, a senior government official said.
