Call Drop: Ministry Finds Answer in Telecom Commission Book

May 4, 2016

Ravi Shankar PrasadHoping to reduce call drop menace substantially, the Telecom Ministry is likely to accept the suggestions of the Telecom Commission (TC) in total, especially the one to make winning bidders of spectrum auction pay upfront 50 per cent of final bid amount for higher bands of spectrum, a senior official in the Telecom Ministry told Express.

This is aimed at pushing the operators to invest more in spectrum used for voice, where the upfront payment is only 25% of the winning bid price. “Additional spectrum necessary for voice will be available for operators, it is for them to bid and win it, if they are concerned about the consumers,” a senior Telecom Commission member said.
