Internet Clean Pipe – DDOS Protection service will give Enterprises globe-spanning, cost-effective and secure bandwidth, while sparing them the embarrassment of the recent Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on social networking sites

Tata Communications, a leading provider of a new world of communications, today announced that it will start providing built-in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) detection and mitigation services as part of its Dedicated Internet Access offering in North America.

With the launch of its Internet Clean Pipe service, Enterprises will be able to leverage Tata Communications’ global network and Managed Security Service (MSS) offering to mitigate DDoS attacks. The Internet Clean Pipe service rides on the world’s largest DDoS scrubbing architecture* that is able to absorb the enormous traffic volumes generated by botnets, buying time to activate countermeasures.

DDoS attacks are the single biggest risk to a company’s Internet connectivity as they consume or most of the network bandwidth and their prevention can save companies many millions of dollars in business costs a year. This is especially so for companies that depend on the Internet as a business platform as well as companies that leverage the Internet as an element of their core IT infrastructure. Most recently, popular social media platforms, as well as some US government and South Korean web sites succumbed to DDoS attacks which saw them sustain considerable reputation damage.

To mitigate DDoS attacks before they start to block traffic to the targeted enterprise, the Internet Clean Pipe service is able to absorb attacks the moment the attack traffic is detected on Tata Communications’ global IP backbone. Due to its extensive network presence, Tata Communications has the network scale needed to negate DDoS incidents before they turn into crisis situations that can create reputation and liability issues for companies.

Tata Communications’ Internet Clean Pipe offering leverages technology from Arbor Networks, a market leading DDoS mitigation specialist, and rides on Tata Communications’ global Tier-1 network with 1.5Tbps capacity meshed with 10G backbones, which extends into more than 200 countries and territories. Tata Communications currently offers the world’s largest DDoS detection and mitigation service built into a global IP backbone*. The service scrutinizes network traffic in real-time to identify anomalies and quarantine attack packets and block malicious traffic. It also makes use of sophisticated detection techniques including built-in attack profiles, and statistical and behavioral analysis methods to quickly identify attacks in progress.

Danny McPherson, Chief Security Officer of Arbor Networks, said: “Recent incidents such as those involving social networking, government, and commercial targets over the past month should serve as a stark reminder to any Internet-connected organization that DDoS remains a very real threat, and if unprepared, may result in considerable business impact. With the scale and sophistication of attacks today, enterprises must cooperate with their network services provider to obtain adequate protection in the event of such attacks.”

Tata Communications’ Internet Clean Pipe service leverages reliable network-based defense while simultaneously optimizing bandwidth utilization. By removing attack traffic within the Tata Communications’ IP backbone, the managed service solution rapidly clears threats in the cloud before they can hit the customer network. This approach is far superior to conventional premise-based defense technology.
